Injury crisis at Chelsea?

After the Community Shield loss to Manchester United on penalities, Jose Mourinho addressed the injury crisis at Chelsea during  the postgame press conference and seemed to shrug off the issue a bit.
‘They played very well for me and I prefer to speak about them instead of the players not involved in the game.’

It appears that he realizes that there may be a bit of a scare going on with the Blues as of late. Mourinho knows that he cannot start yelling that the sky is falling at Stamford Bridge yet. But with John Terry, Didier Drogba, Claude Makelele, Salomon Kalou, Michael Ballack, Andriy Shevchenko, Wayne Bridge and Paolo Ferreira out of the squad, one might begin to wonder just what Mourinho is going to do. Ballack may not even be around this season as he still is rumored in a possible move to Real Madrid.

Are you ready to see Shaun Wright-Phillips attempting to net 20 goals this season? I know most Blues fans tremble at that thought, as well they should.

No matter how good your depth is, or where you can pull players from, if a good majority of your starting eleven are injured, you are in for a bit of a struggle.  Joe Cole is a good player, but is not the answer for Chelsea.

Chelsea need to start off well if they hope to dethrone Manchester United as champions, but also have the Champions League group phase which starts September 18th to worry about. Mourinho doesn’t seem to be worried about that.

“When the injured players are back, they are back. But I am ready to go, like I was today, ready to go to the fight with the boys who played today.”

I just don’t think Chelsea fans are so sure Jose, and neither am I.
